Thousands of families have moved to DeSoto County in recent years, and the growth continues. The current population is about 200,000. About 70,000 claim to belong to evangelical churches. DeSoto County has 40 SBC churches with a combined membership of about 13,000. Lewisburg MS has seen tremendous growth in the last decade. Cockrum is where the new Lewisburg Middle School is located. Hundreds of homes are projected to be built in this area.
Cockrum is approximately 12 miles south of Olive Branch and 7 miles north of Independence along Hwy 305. It is also approximately 11 miles east of Hernando from Holly Springs Road. Many people travel through Cockrum daily from Independence as well. It is a major thoroughfare, and there is a huge gap in this developing community for a Great Commission Church.
The population within a 15 minute drive in every direction from Cockrum is 81,417. In ten years the population is projected to be 96,056. Some of these numbers reach down into Tate county, but that further shows the opportunity to reach further and plant more churches that plant churches.
